Lets begin with: What are chakras?

Essentially they are energy centres inside and outside the body. Energy flows through these centres and around the body. However, energy expands, shrinks and become stagnant depending on what’s going on within and around us. Too little or too much energy can lead to imbalances that manifest physically, mentally or emotionally.

There are 7 main chakras in the body and they are:

Root Chakra – Red
Sacral Chakra – Orange
Solar Plexus Chakra – Yellow
Heart Chakra – Geeen
Throat Chakra – Blue
Third Eye Chakra – Indigo
Crown Chakra – Purple

Each one corresponding to a particular colour, as indicated above. The chakras also correspond to different body parts too. Which is useful to know because some imbalances in the chakras can manifest themselves as ailments or pain the body.

Over the next few weeks I’ll sharing more about each Chakra in turn. Also sharing beauty tips and routines, aligned with each chakra, to support you to also embrace your own natural beauty.

Today, it is all about the Throat Chakra.

Location: Centre of neck at the Throat
Colour: Blue
Resonance: Communication, truth and self-expression
Physical symptoms: Tension in shoulders or neck, nose, throat, jaw, teeth or thyroid
Throat Chakra imbalanced: Inability to or fear of speaking your truth, writer’s block,
Throat Chakra balance: Speak your truth, follow through on your word, especially around purpose and career, ability to communicate clearly and listen

The Throat Chakra is the fifth chakra and is located in the centre of the neck where the throat can be found. This chakra focuses upon expression and communication. When balanced you are confident in and able to speak your truth with love, as well as express yourself clearly. With this also relating to your ability to speak for truth and be honest with yourself too. Therefore, when balanced you embrace your own individuality, quirkiness and uniqueness. Having a real sense of personal expression that supports you in speaking up, as well as following your purpose and vocation. Doing so, without fear of what others say or think, especially when in harmony with the Sacral Chakra.

When imbalanced you may feel shy, inhibited or fearful of speaking your truth or being heard. Fear of judgement from others and worrying about what other people may think tending to pre occupy your mind. The inability to listen to others or hear their point of view, especially when it opposes yours is also related to an imbalance in this chakra. Keeping in mind that listening is a key communication skill. Also, you may find that imbalance in the throat chakra can lead to be being a gossip queen/king and being overly critical of yourself or others.

Meditation that focuses on the balancing, harmonizing and activating the Throat Chakra is a great way to help with any imbalances. You can blend this with breathing techniques or chanting. Using your voice through chanting is a great way to clear your throat chakra and basically find your voice again. A meditation that I recommend is The Guided Chakra Cleanse. It works through all of the chakras too. Not just the Throat Chakra.

Blue is the colour that resonates with the Throat Chakra. Blue relates to communication, truth, peace, calm and serenity. Therefore it is a really good choice for interviews or any kind of public speaking. Paint your nails in your favourite blue shade or paint an accept nail in that shade with a nail art design. See below for idea

Crystals are also linked to the different chakras in your body. You can carry them with you, hold them during meditation, placed on the Throat Chakra or have them closeby when getting ready to go out in order to amplify the energy of your intention. Also giving you a little reminder of your intention to activate or bring balance to your Throat chakra. Crystals associated with this chakra are: Turquoise, Sodalite and Aquamarine.
