Heart + Self Healing

Self and heart healing

I came to self and heart healing almost a decade ago. Like many, it was a time in my life where I felt as if my heart had broken into a million pieces. Not yet recognising that rock bottom would be the place where a new, better version of me and embodiment of love would be created.

Maybe as you read this now you are in the midst of your own heartbreak. Experiencing sadness, pain, loss, resentment or anger and feeling as if there is no hope for you where matters of the heart are concerned. Whereas I won’t tell you how to think and feel, I can share with you some insight into heart and self-healing. Doing so, with the intention to inspire you to take those tentative steps towards self and heart healing, as I did 10 years ago.

HEART RESEARCH + THE ANCIENTS

Heart Healing meditation

The mind is given much kudos for being a driving force in supporting you to manifest your intentions into your life. With little regard given to the heart. In fact, being heart centred or focusing upon your heart is considered wishy-washy or irrelevant.

However, recent research has shown that the heart is effectively like the second brain. Holding within it much wisdom alongside the memories and feelings of yesteryear. Due to its strong electromagnetic field (5,000 times stronger than the brain), whatever you feel within your heart can be felt by other people several feet away.

It is this very idea of the heart as such a powerful organ of the body that has been echoed throughout time, namely by the Ancient Egyptians.

During funeral ceremonies, the heart would be the only organ not removed because it was revered as being the throne of wisdom, where thoughts and emotions resided.

As for the brain. Well, that was the only organ that would be removed because it was considered to have no real significance.

So, what does this have to do with heart healing and feeling better after experiencing heartache or pain?

When you think about love where do you commonly feel the expansion of energy?

In your heart.

When you split with an ex or pine for an ex-lover, where do you feel the tight and contracted energy?

In your heart.

So much of what is felt emanates from the heart. This is great when you feel good, happy, joyful and all loved up.

I mean think about the meaning that life takes on, all the synchronicity you experience and your ability to bounce back when the heart is expanded.

This is in contrast to the lack of clarity and victim thinking of “Why me?” Which is often followed up with that feeling of being stuck and unlucky in love.

From this simple explanation alone it becomes apparent that the energy emanating from your heart (based on your thoughts and emotions) has an impact on your energy field. Therefore an impact on what you invite into your energy and your life.

By clearing your heart of the energy of fear, lack, pain, anger, scarcity….. you release yourself from the burden of the past. In doing so, healing your heart and increasing the probability of aligning with your true soul-inspired intentions.

It is common that when heart healing is activated the connection between the Divinity and wisdom that lies within is amplified. A concept that has long since been echoed by mystics and spiritual teachers from different world religions. Each one believing that the soul, the Divine or the Buddha-like self resides within the chambers of the heart.

From my own personal practice of self and heart healing, I’ve noticed this to be true. Whilst also finding that my alignment increases when engaging my heart. In fact, on one occasion, I recall overriding the doubt of the mind by engaging from the heart and manifested a miracle healing in less than 24 hours.

A HEART HEALING MEDITATION

Healing the Heart meditation

This meditation has it’s origins in Tantra and is a powerful way to release heavy feelings from your heart.

A simple meditation that engages both the mind and the heart. It has been known to move people to tears (myself included) as the energies leave the body. Whilst you focus on replacing this heavy energy with unconditional love.

You can click here to access this meditation.

ANGELIC REIKI

Angelic Reiki Healing with Chanel Marie

I’ve seen and personally experienced profound shifts from Angelic Reiki sessions. Especially as clients start to release that energy that has left them feeling heavy from within.

My own personal experience evoked memories from the past (and past lives), something that isn’t uncommon. However, rather than getting caught up and lost in the story of that memory, I found it brought understanding that had been missing. Thus, closure on a repetitive relationship and cycle, simply by observing, releasing and replacing with unconditional love.

ROSE QUARTZ

Rose Quartz is famed for being the love crystal. The Crystal that you pop into your bra, adorn yourself with or add to a crystal elixir when you want to attract love into your life. However, it’s way more powerful than that.

Vibrating at the frequency of unconditional love working with Rose Quartz will reveal, one by one, anything within or without which is not in alignment with its vibration. Therefore, making it an excellent crystal to work with when you know within that you are ready to dissolve your barriers to love.

Thankfully, the energy of Rose Quartz is gentle and soothing. So, although what is revealed might be a hard pill to swallow the soothing energy of Rose Quartz can support and guide you to refuel yourself with unconditional love.

Full Moon in Cancer + Spiritual Beauty Ritual

The Winter Solstice brought the energy of a hidden new beginning. An opportunity to guide yourself out of the darkness and into your light. Doing so by setting clear intentions about:

  • What you want to release
  • What you want to experience
  • Who you want to become

An opportunity that may have been lost in the hustle and bustle to do, to buy and impress during this holiday season.

The Full Moon builds on this energy of releasing and embracing a new beginning. An opportunity of a fresh start and clean slate. However, this clean slate is not given. It is created by You! Created through your intentions and soul-inspired actions.

FULL MOON ENERGY

When the moon is full it shines at it’s brightest. Illuminating anything that’s been hidden in the darkness.

A Full Moon governs our emotional energy. So, it shines a light on those emotions that you’ve been hiding and suppressing or even ignoring. Bringing them to the surface to be seen, to be felt and to be transmuted.

This is an important part of the law of attraction process and general self development. Yet it’s a process that not many want to partake in. Having a preference for flying high and living in the upper chakras. Forgetting that we live in a material, physical world and that energy needs to flow – in and out, in order for us to live fully and sustain our manifestations.

FULL MOON IN CANCER

A moon in the sign of Cancer is very much at home and in its comfort zone because Cancer is governed by the moon. Therefore a Cancer Full Moon will throw the spotlight on:

  • The home
  • Family
  • Relationships
  • Femininity
  • Memories of the past
  • Comfort zones

Although you’ll do well to remember that our personal astrology chart and own soul growth may also have an impact on the themes that are highlighted for you at this time. This is why your personal awareness is so important, especially when working with the energy of the Moon.

Cancer is also the sign of the Mother, divine feminine, caregiver and nurturer. She is the natural healer and is deeply intuitive, with a hidden inner strength that few may be aware of. Cancer also likes her creature comforts and taking trips down memory lane.

WAYS TO WORK WITH CANCER FULL MOON

1. In her shadow Cancer can have a hard time letting go of the past. Yet her on point intuition will often guide her to do exactly that and her inner strength will support her to do this with as much ease and grace as possible. So, give yourself permission to facilitate the process of letting go of who or what no longer serves you, especially as you head into 2019.

2. The embodiment of the Divine Feminine energy with her perfect blend of feminine gifts, vulnerability, compassion and inner strength. A Cancer Full Moon brings about more opportunities to awaken your own feminine energy and really step away from old paradigms in a search of something new, real and uniquely you.

3. The Mother who wants peace, happiness and love to prevail in the home. Cancer will go above and beyond to make sure others are happy, watered and feed. Nurturing and loving, sometimes to the point of smothering when in the shadow. Look at where you could either be nurturing more or smothering less. Get the perfect mix to maintain that flow of energy.

4. Cancerians are private (I know bevause I am one). They go within before going without. Tune into where you are being called to go within, connect to your own intuition or simply take stock and rest.

SPIRITUAL BEAUTY RITUAL

Capricorn Sun energy (Capricorn is Cancers opposite sign) and Cancer Moon energy brings the opportunity to ground, whilst also nurturing yourself from the inside out.

One way to do this is to enjoy a Full Moon bath. Think scented candles and relaxing music to set the right mood.

Fill your bath with Himilayan or Epsom salts, both of which are known for the cleansing properties. Choose a crystal that compliments the energy of what you want to work on during this Full Moon eg: Rose Quartz for forgiveness or Smokey Quartz for energy clearing. Place it in the bath or around the bath tub. Work with the energy of the Moon to release and let go.

Don’t be surprised if colds, flu or just plain old fatigue hit you rigjt now. I know its hard at this time of year but try not to resist it. A purging of energy is taking place or your body is saying it wants to rest.

However you choose to work with the energy of this Full Moon be sure to enjoy it and work with the energy. Most of all, try to make the most of spending time on your own. Resting and beautifying yourself from the inside out. You are worth it.

3 ways to be more spiritual in your beauty routine + heal your relationship with yourself

When we talk about conscious beauty our thoughts normally go towards vegan and ethical beauty products or eating mindfully and healthily. Yet, the kind of conscious beauty that I want to focus upon today involves mind, energy and emotions.

Over the last few years the world of beaury has changed with more and more people taking a more conscious approach. Rather than being seduced by the brand + packaging we are looking more closely at the ingredients and we are asking questions about how ethical the brand is.

But, what if we could take this a step further by using our beauty routine as a way to consciously align our mind, energy and emotions to heal our relationship with ourselves? In today’s blog post I’ll share some tips on how you can do exactly that.

DEFINING SPIRITUAL BEAUTY

Spiritual Beauty involves going within to do the inner work in order to heal your relationship with yourself and step out of the dark into your light. The tools I use include energy healing, spiritual guidance (including mindset, mystical wisdom and ritual) and outer beauty treatments.

SPIRITUAL BEAUTY RITUAL

Decide

Set an intention for your beauty routine. Decide how you want to feel and how you want to show up in your world that day. For example, you may have an important interview and you want to feel confident. Invite the Angels, God or whoever you believe in to support you in aligning with this energy through the power of prayer or setting an intention.

Prayer: “Thank you for blessing my day ahead and everyone that I meet. Thank you for blessing me and filling me with (insert what you want to receive).” For added emphasis and energy alignment choose a crystal that matches the energy of your intention, eg: Green Aventurine for luck or Mangano Calcite for self love.

Affirmations

Have affirmations close by and say these as you are applying your make-up in the mirror. Your affirmations can be a mix of things that you love and honour about yourself, alongside those that align with one specific thing that you are working on manifesting into your life.

Tip: Begin your affirmations with the words “I am“. It is believed that whatever follows the words “I am” are instantly affirmed by God and you will become that. Read more here.

Awareness

As you apply your makeup begin to notice where your thoughts go. Notice whether or not those thoughts are self-affirming or devaluing you. It’s possible that when your attention moves towards a particular part of your face or body you feel a shift in your energy, eg: butterflies or tightness in your tummy.

Is this an indication that you need to love this part of your body more? Are their thoughts and beliefs about this part of your body that devalue you?

Tip: Acknowledge the energy, thought and feeling. Reframe and affirm what you want to think and feel about that part of your body instead. Where possible use the word “I am” and if it’s hard to believe the new affirmation trying saying “I am giving myself permission to let go of the belief that……” and follow this with “I am willing to believe that…..”

ARE YOU READY TO EXPERIENCE SPIRITUAL BEAUTY?

Take what resonates from the practice of Spiritual Beauty and don’t feel the need to do it all at once. Start with one of the actions and focus on it over a sustain period of time. On the other hand you may prefer to take one activity and make it into a weekly ritual. Choose what feels good, aligned and manageable for you.

Be patient with yourself too. Whereas you might be able to change some beliefs that you have about yourself quickly, there may be others that take more time. Often these beliefs and thoughts have been engrained in you over a period of time. Affirmed over and over again through experiences and interactions with others, sometimes since childhood. In some cases you have even inherited these beliefs from your your parents and taken them on as your own. Therefore, the practice of Spiritual Beauty will take practise and consistent effort.

I’d love to hear how you get on so feel free to comment below or message me personally.

With love from me to you xo

PS- Please note that these tools, practices and suggestions are from my own practice. They are not a substitute for professional medical or financial advice.

Day 5: The crystal everyone needs to know about

Personally, I feel like I’ve saved the best crystal for last!

Today’s crystal is one that I think that everybody should have in their crystal collection because of its versatility and the amazing impact it can have on your vibration. Let me introduce you to Selenite.

WHY YOU NEED SELENITE IN YOUR LIFE

OMG! There are so many reasons why you need this crystal in your life and this is everything to do with its amazing healing benefits.

You can use it to cleanse your energy field of any dense and heavy energy that you’re carrying within. Whipping your chakra system back into shape by clearing and balancing each chakra. This also brings you back into alignment: Feeling positive, good about life and even better about yourself. Who doesn’t wanna experience that?

It amplifies the energy of crystals, objects and intentions because it is such a high vibrational stone. Therefore it’s a good idea to use this Selenite alongside other crystals to amplify the energy of your intention.

Selenite doesn’t need to be recharged and can actually be used to charge and cleanse other crystals. That being said I will, when guided to, cleanse mine with Sage or Angelic Reiki. It’s also commonplace for me to use one of my big chunks of Selenite as a cleansing and charging bed. This means I lay my crystal bracelets and watch on top of the Selenite so that it can be cleared of unwanted energy. Then it’s recharged and ready to be used the next day. Magic.

Liquid Light, another name for Selenite, attracts the energy of light. Which is why it’s so good for cleansing, purifying, protecting and raising your vibration.

HOW TO USE SELENITE

There are so many different ways to use and reap the energetic benefits of this beautiful crystal. Here is my absolute fave:

Aura Cleansing. Move your Selenite wand slowly and intentionally down your body. I like to start at my crown chakra (top of my head), down the front of the body and all the way down to and under my feet. You also want to make sure that you run the wand over your arms, as well as down the back of your body too. Saying a prayer of intention or visualising the dense energy being absorbed by the Selenite where it’s transmuted into light. I like to pay attention to areas where I’m experiencing pain, as this tends to be where there is a block in the energy.

Failing that you can also sleep with it under your pillow at night to promote relaxation and a night of good sleep. You can also place it on your body during meditation, including laying it on a pain point or chakra point to promote healing and balance.

Day 5: The crystal everyone needs to know about

Day 1: Rose Quartz

Loving yourself and feeling confident in your own skin are key aspects of sacred beauty. It promotes healthy self-esteem and a sense of self-worth that comes from within. Meaning that you don’t feel the need to look for validation from others or feel the need to change in order to fit in, be accepted or feel loved.

Yet, in today’s modern world this isn’t always easy. Pressure from social media, magazines and celeb culture can often leave women feeling like they have to conform to be beautiful. And let’s not forget the pain and anguish that comes from heartbreak, bullying and other soul-destroying situations, which can leave you feeling un-pretty, unworthy and less than in so many ways.

Whilst there are many methods that can be used to heal and move beyond these feelings there are little gems from the Earth which, if used alongside these methods, can give your healing a little energetic boost.

These gems are crystals, with Rose Quartz being the perfect crystal for all things sacred beauty and love related.

LOVE + ROSE QUARTZ:

A LITTLE BACKGROUND

Don’t forget to fall in love with yourself first.” – Carrie Bradshaw

Rose Quartz is one of those crystals which can be hugely underestimated. It’s often thought of that crystal that helps us to attract the lover of our dreams. Yet it is so much more than this. In fact, before it even draws the love another close it will show you all the ways that you need to love yourself first!

This candy pink gemstone is a nurturing stone. A stone of compassion and unconditional love. Making it a beautiful companion during times of heartache or pain, including period pain. As it’s soothing, healing and energy of unconditional love it works to dissolve those barriers of pain, sadness and fear.

HOW TO MAKE ROSE QUARTZ PART OF YOUR DAILY LIFE

There are many different ways to make this crystal part of your everyday life. For example, it’s believed that the Goddess Aphrodite used to place Rose Quartz in her bath so that the loving energy of the crystal could be absorbed into her body and energy field. This way of working with crystals has been adopted by many modern sacred beauties, like you and I. It’s certainly a beautiful way to relax at the end of a stressful day. I can vouch for that.

One way that I make Rose Quartz part of my day is by keeping a small selection of tumbled stones in a glass bowl on my dressing table. This helps to hold the vibration of unconditional love, self-love and beauty as I apply my makeup. It’s also a personal reminder for me too.

As Rose Quartz resonates with the heart chakra it makes sense to place it over your heart chakra during meditation. This can have the effect of opening the heart of receive love whilst also promoting relaxation. You might like to try this heart-centred meditation.

Alternatively, you may simply wish to wear your Rose Quartz in your bra, so it’s close to your heart space or adorns your wrist with a beautiful Rose Quartz bracelet. How you choose to connect with and work with your crystal is entirely up to you.

ARE YOU READY TO MAKE ROSE QUARTZ PART OF YOUR LIFE?

Loving yourself, recognising your own beauty and being confident in your own skin are essential ingredients for Sacred Beauty. So, if you could with a little support in this area Rose Quartz can be a great tool to work with. Using it alongside affirmations, meditation, Angelic Reiki or other forms of self-development as it helps to amplify the energy of your intention.

If you are thinking of or already do work with Rose Quartz I’d love to hear from you. Comment below and I’ll respond to your comment.

Look forward to hearing your experiences.

JUNE VIBES

giphy

“Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another stepping stone to greatness.”

– Oprah Winfrey

Think like a Queen feels to be the vibration of June.  Along with focused intention and having your eye on the bigger picture.

It’s the beginning of a new month. The previous months have been hard going for many. Lots of energy clearing, releasing and healing integration going on. This month brings in new energy. Somewhat lighter. Somewhat more expansive than what we’ve been used to so far this year.

With this energy brings new opportunities to venture to the places that you have never been before. This will require courage, focus + the willingness to step out of your comfort zone. In fact, the phrase that I am hearing is:

Feel the Fear + Do it Anyway

Also, the name of an awesome book that I read on my hols many years ago. If you have not read it then I suggest that you check it out. I am sure that you won’t regret it and you can thank me later.

Let’s get back to June……..

This month it will be a good idea to connect to the bigger picture. Posing the questions:

Are you now able to see the bigger picture more clearly? Are pieces of the puzzle falling into place?

Where the answer is No – What are you going to do about it? What do you need to change? Where the answer is Yes – Celebrate and take note of what is supporting you to stay in alignment.

Yet, whether the answer is hell yeah or absolutely fucking not, the guidance remains the same: Develop your ability to go within, connect with your soul and trust. Trust the guidance that it brings forth. Those hunches. Those signs. Those aha moments. Those times of synchronicity.

JUNE ACTIONS

Tune into your heart space. Hear what your mind has to say. Then give yourself permission to tune out of your head and into your heart. Ask for guidance on a particular question or burning issue. How does it resonate with your heart?

Be grateful for where you are and what you are learning. Take baby steps in order to remain consistent.

“Crystal healing is the belief that the metaphysical energy of crystals + gemstones can assist in the healing of the emotional, spiritual & physical body.”

– Victoria Forster, Co-founder of Venusrox

I love this excerpt from an interview with Victoria Forster because she sums up crystal healing in such a simplistic way. Which is perfect because working with crystals is simple and, in my own experience, it is the simplest way to raise your vibration, whilst adding a little beauty and sparkle to your everyday life. However, with the multitude of books, courses, websites and products out there you would think that incorporating crystals into your everyday life is rocket science when really it doesn’t have to be.

HOW I GOT STARTED + BANISHING A CRYSTAL MYTH

When I first discovered crystals I was about 7 years old and was on a school trip to Chislehurst Caves. Whilst everybody else was buying novelty pencils and rubbers I was choosing the best Amethyst and Clear Quartz crystals for mum and me. Yet, it wasn’t until I was in university that I started to really get into them.

Beginning with using Rose Quartz to banish crippling period pain, boosting my confidence and attracting attention from male admirers. At the time, it was non-intentional and totally experimental. By that, I mean that I wasn’t setting an intention for how to work with my crystal and had no idea about the properties of Rose Quartz. However, the little Rose Quartz that I had borrowed from my mum, worked for me in the most beautiful, loving, intuitive and miraculous way.

For me, that is the beauty of crystals: They know exactly what you need, even if you don’t and are not even sure what to do in order to connect with them. This is because crystals will respond to your most dominant vibration (your energy). Lifting, balancing and giving you what you need energetically in order to move forward with a little more ease and grace. Therefore, I always feel that the key things you need when working with crystals are an open heart and an open mind, as well as a healthy dose of detachment.

CLEANSING YOUR CRYSTALS

It is important to cleanse your crystals before you use them. Even if they have been tucked away in your crystal box for some time, it is wise to perform a simple cleansing ritual because crystals store energy. Therefore, it is possible that your crystal may have absorbed energy that may not resonate with you.

There are many schools of thoughts, methods and suggestions for cleaning your crystals. Yet the ones that I subscribe to can be performed with ease and do not require lots of preparation or additional effort. Try one or all of the following and see which one floats your boat:
#1: Water

This is where I started, holding my crystals under running water with the intention of clearing the energy, and sometimes I would soak the crystals in water overnight.
#2: Sage

Pass the crystal through the smoke of Sage and saying an affirming prayer to clear the energy of the crystal. Sage has been used since ancient times, believed to remove negative energy and restore energetic balance within a space.
#3: Prayer and intention

Hold the crystal in your hand or by your heart and say a prayer of intention, speaking directly from your heart. One prayer that I have come across recently and absolutely love is this one from Energy Muse:

“I ask that the highest vibration of love+ light connect with my highest self to clear all unwanted energy + previous programming. I command these crystals to _____________. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.”

People often ask me how often they should be cleansing their crystals. My personal stance is that I clear the energy of the crystals each time I am working with it for something new. This way I clear all previous programming and any unwanted energy. In saying that, I also trust my intuition and the connection that I have with that crystal. Therefore, if I feel that the energy of the crystal is getting a little heavy or that it feel ‘weak’, for want of a better word, I clear the energy using the method that I feel drawn to at that time.

Despite the fact that I have completed crystal healing and reading courses, my interaction with my crystals is still based on my intuition and personal experiences. Sometimes I feel that this is best because the crystal is working with you and your energy, so what works for others may not necessarily work with you.

CRYSTAL MUST-HAVES

Copy of Copy of _Lost is not a place. It's a soul in paralysis waiting to move moved._ - Alfa (1)

Choosing the right crystal for you tends to be a very intuitive process whereby the crystal will often choose you, connecting with your vibration. However, I have found over the years that there are crystals that I simply cannot live without and that I return to over again to support me in different areas of my life. These crystals are:
#1: Clear Quartz
Crystal all-rounder and tension reliever. It can also be used to amplify the energy of your intention + other crystals.
#2: Howlite
This crystal will bring a wave of calm when you are feeling a little stress or overwhelmed. It’s a great meditation companion.
#3: Rose Quartz
The infamous stone of love is a healing and soothing stone. Shows you your barriers to love + aids sleep.
#4: Black Tourmaline
A stone of protection that grounds and shields you from energy, especially negative energy, that’s not yours.
#5: Selenite
Your guardian angel in crystal form. This crystal cleanses your energy, unblocking that stuck energy + bringing a sense of calm.
#6: Citrine
More commonly known as the abundance stone as it can be used for manifesting abundance. Promotes confidence and positivity in the wearer.

INCORPORATING CRYSTALS INTO YOUR DAILY LIFE

Copy of Copy of _Lost is not a place. It's a soul in paralysis waiting to move moved._ - Alfa (2)

There are many ways to incorporate crystals into your daily life and it really doesn’t have to be complicated. One of the most effective and easy ways that I find for doing this is wearing them in my bra. Although, you can carry your crystals in your pocket or handbag, as well as keeping them on your desk, altar, under your pillow or in a crystal grid. You may even want to hold a crystal in your hand whilst you are meditation or visualising in order to amplify the energy of your intention. This will be supportive in getting you in energetic alignment.

TAKE YOUR POWER BACK AT WORK

I’ve been fortunate enough to work in every single career field that I have wanted to, overcoming opposition, challenge and many nay-sayers. In addition to this, I’ve incorporated crystals into my law of attraction rituals and prayers, giving me a little energy boost and alignment.

I have also used crystals when I was having a hard time at work, especially when working in negative environments or people where it was essential that I stay in my own energy. Two crystals that I find really helps with this are Selenite and Black Tourmaline, incorporating them into my energy protection practice and wearing them in my bra whilst at work. You can find out more about each of these crystals by re-reading the crystal must-haves section above.

If you are in need of a little confidence boost and good luck in a work project or job hunt, then Aquamarine is a good crystal helper. Not only does it emit a relaxing and calming vibrational, yet I found that it boosts your confidence and gives you the motivation to simply just go for it.

ARE YOU READY TO LIFT YOUR VIBRATION WITH CRYSTALS?

Whether you are manifesting a new job, healing a broken-heart or protecting yourself against negative energy in the workplace there will be a crystal for you. So, are you ready to make crystals a part of your life and lift your vibration? Are you already using crystals in your daily life?

I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences, which you can post in the comments section below.

The key is to get started and build your own relationship with your crystals, exploring and experiencing how to the crystal connects with your energy. And there’s no better time to do that then now.

Meditation for the busy modern woman

meditationforthebusymodernwoman

Meditation is one practice that I’ve always had an on, off love affair with. Sometimes I’ll be on it, meditating in the am and the pm. Then, at other times, I’ll find myself slacking.

I used to get annoyed with myself for not wanting to meditate. Going into this space of, almost forcing myself to meditate. After all, meditation is what us spiritual types are meant to do, right?

These days I do find myself meditating every day and that’s because I want to. That’s because I’ve have created a ‘no pressure’ practice that fits in with my lifestyle. As a result of this, I’ve found that I actually enjoy it.

I’ve also made a few discoveries along the way that hopefully will inspire you to start and create your own meditation practice that works for you.

DISCOVERY #1: LET GO OF YOUR PRECONCEPTIONS

People tend to shy away from meditation because they think that they “can’t” do it or they have tried it and found it hard to shut off the ‘monkey mind’. I was exactly the same and still have does when I am a bit restless. However, I know that I can meditate for 50 minutes straight because I have done so in the past and I am sure that you could too. All you need to do is move beyond the lies that you tell yourself so that you can show up and create a practice that works for you.

While you are at it: Drop the meditation rules.

There are no rigid rules. It’s about creating a practice that works for you and that you benefit from.

DISCOVERY #2: DITCH THE MIND CHATTER

I often find, especially when I am feeling stressed that it helps to ditch the mind clutter. This mind clutter usually consists of the ‘monkey mind’ thoughts that get in the way of your meditation, so why not ditch them early?

One way to do this is by grabbing a blank piece of paper and a pen, then just writing out your thoughts and feelings. Don’t hold back just empty your mind onto the paper. Even if that simply includes: I need to buy new shoes for my date on Friday night. Write it out and create space within.

DISCOVERY #3: PURPOSE + FEELING

There are now so many different types of meditations out there that it is easy to become overwhelmed by all of the choices. Therefore, I suggest that you ascertain how you want to feel and why you want to meditate.

It could be that you want to balance your chakras, relax, practice forgiveness, connect to the spirit or ease yourself into a restful night’s sleep. You might want to feel more focused or raise your vibration. When you know your purpose and how you want to feel you can use this to guide you to the meditation that is right for you at that time. This is especially useful when using Apps such as the Insight Timer where meditations are split into categories.

DISCOVERY #4: MEDITATE ON THE GO

You do not have to be glued to your meditation cushion in order to meditate. Simply being outside in nature, going out for the walk or putting your earphones in and listening to a meditation track on the bus can be enough. God knows that I have done all three in my time.

Personally, I find that just by taking those 5 or 10 minutes to myself on the bus, train or tube helps to chill me out, relax, reconnect and ground, if only just for a while. That short while can really make a difference to how you feel on the inside and how you show up on the outside. Whilst also bringing a sense of perspective and balance that you may have missed had you not given yourself permission to experience a moment or two of stillness.

In fact, some people suggest that the act of walking, especially in nature, can be a form of meditation in motion.

It’s for this reason that I have one or two meditation apps downloaded and a few more saved in the music player on my mobile.

DISCOVERY #5: DON’T LET IT GET BORING

When meditation felt like a chore or routine that’s when I’d skip my practice. So, I’m happy to mix things up and do what works for me. As long as I arrive at my desired experience or feeling outcome that’s the most important thing.

Mixing it up may look different for each person. It could be that you do a 10-minute meditation rather than 50 minutes. Maybe you meditate to your favourite songs, like I have been known to. Perhaps you do a 30-day chakra meditation to balance your chakras and restore balance from within.

One way around this is to commit to 5 days of meditating each morning, afternoon, evening, day or whatever works for you. At the end of the week reflect on what worked and what didn’t. Make adjustments and tweaks here there, whilst keeping what worked before committing to another 5 or 10 days of meditation. Over time, you’ll build up a meditation practice that works for you at that phase in your life. I say “at that phase in your life” because things change. Life changes. You change. So, you have to adapt to these changes and that may also involve making changes to your meditation practice.

ARE YOU READY TO MEDITATE?

Even if you begin with just 2 minutes of meditation then start there and build up over time because this is how you cultivate a practice that works for you.

To get you started I highly recommend the Rituals app which is my new favourite meditation app and you can also shop for Rituals goodies too, which are absolutely divine. Download the Rituals app here, you won’t regret it.

Here are few more of my favourites:

Cleansing Toolkit: Sage

Sage and the New Moon

Although, the New Moon is a time for setting new intentions, planning new projects and new beginnings I can definitely say that, in the run-up to this New Moon, I am finding that I have more than my fair share of negative energy to transmute and drive out of my physical, spiritual and emotional body.

From my conversations with other women, it would seem that I am not alone with this, as many of you have been experiencing stress, overwhelm, fatigue and sleepless nights, as the first New Moon of 2018 draws closer. All of this can create a feeling of misalignment and I, for one, try my best not to bring this energy to my altar space when writing or setting my New Moon intentions.

Therefore, in the days leading up to the New Moon or on the evening itself I will clear my own energy using Sage, alongside any other rituals and practices that I am guided to. In doing so, I am putting myself in the position where I am most likely to be infusing my New Moon intentions or wish list with positive energy.

Why Sage?

Sage has long since been my go-to tool for removing unwanted and stale energy that has been building up over time, or simply attached itself to me during the day. It’s also a sacred plant that has been used by many ancient and traditional civilizations who would use Sage in rituals and ceremonies in order to heal and purify energy.

What’s great about Sage is that it can be used to clear energy from yourself and your home, especially if you have moved into a new home and want to give it a deep energetic cleanse. It can also be used to cleanse unwanted energy from objects, such as your crystals or crystal jewellery. Essentially, Sage is the perfect addition to your spiritual beauty toolkit and will support you in nourishing your inner beauty too.

How to use Sage

  1. Hold the Sage stick in your hand and set your intention, eg: To clear away unwanted, negative energy from yourself and your space. Light one end of your Sage stick, allowing it to catch fire and burn for several seconds. Once the flame extinguishes gently blow on the lit end to fan the embers.
  2. Begin by clearing your own auric field. I suggest that you start at the top of your head and go down the front of your body, as if you are cutting through energy cords that have attached themselves to your chakras, and travel down to your feet. Continue by wafting the Sage smoke under your feet, down your arms etc.
  3. Move onto ‘Sage-ing’ your space, beginning at the door and going around the door frame.
  4. Work through the room paying attention to corners and other dark corners which is where energy can get trapped. As you do this visualise or say a mantra that supports you in holding the intention for “clearing out the negative, stale energy and restoring positive balance energy”.
  5. Finally, extinguish the Sage by safely snuffing it out in a fireproof container.

Alternatives to Sage

I love the smell of Sage yet there are times when the smell can be overwhelming so you may want to try these alternative herbs:

  • Palo Santo: aka ‘Holy wood’ – relaxing, cleansing, healing and calming.
  • Frankincense: Connects you with Source energy, ease stress and anxiety, protection and cleansing.
  • Selenite: aka ‘Liquid Light’ – cleansing, connecting you to Source energy, protective. Find out how to cleanse your aura with Selenite.
